YOUNGSTERS at St Andrew's School in Weymouth have given Weymouth Foodbank a boost.

They’ve raised £78.14 by making decorations symbolising the school vision.

The fundraising came about after the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Revd Steven Lake, challenged his congregation to take £10 and see how much they could grow it to make a difference – inspired by the Parable of the Talents.

The chief executive of the school's academy chain, Mark Lacey, was in the congregation.

He challenged all of the schools in DSAT to suggest how to grow the £10 he had received.

The school's Kirtsy Goodwin said: "Our Reception class wanted to make decorations that symbolised our school vision, 'let all that you do be done in love' so they decided to make heart-shaped magnets using salt dough with the money and sell them.

"The idea was entirely the children’s – all the grown-ups had to do is help out. The children wanted to use the challenge to raise money for Weymouth Foodbank, one of St Andrew’s school’s favourite charities.

"They were absolutely delighted when their idea was the one chosen. They worked hard to make their hearts and got busy decorating each one. They sold them to parents and other members of the St Andrew’s community to raise money for our local food bank - growing the money and making a difference for others in our community.

"Altogether, they’ve raised an incredible £78.14 for the Weymouth Foodbank.

"Their teachers, Mr Spokes, Mrs Rose and Mrs Mitchell, are so proud of them for finding such a creative way to make a difference."
