Long-running Australian soap will come to a close tonight with a double-episode special after 37 years on screen.

Neighbours, which first aired in 1985 and follows the lives of those living and working in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, shot its final scenes in early June.

It is ceasing production after failing to secure new funding since being dropped by Channel 5 earlier this year and will end with a double-episode special on the channel at 9pm tonight, Friday, July 29.

Away from Ramsay Street, many Neighbours stars have visited Weymouth and even made Dorset their home to star in Weymouth's Christmas panto.

We take a look at their time in Dorset below.

Eliza Taylor-Cotter - Janae Hoyland

In 2007, Eliza, who played man-mad mechanic Janae Hoyland in Neighbours, starred in Snow White at Weymouth Pavilion as the title character.

Eliza, who went on to find fame in the US in The 100, traded in a sunny Christmas Down Under for a cold and chilly Weymouth in December.

The Echo's writer Ruth Meech wrote: ('Eliza, it should be noted, walked jauntily along the beach to the Pavilion from her Park District digs in a thin cotton mini-dress, high-heeled black boots, lightweight jacket and sunglasses.)

"It's weird because it's nearly Christmas and it's so cold! It's like July at home," Eliza said.

And what did she make of Weymouth?

"I've never even travelled before. I was thinking that after panto I might try and see a bit of Europe, if I have time. But Weymouth is great, Weymouth's cute! It's a completely different pace to London where everyone rushes around as though they are ants on a mission.

"It's good to come here and slow down a little, have fun with the pantomime and find out about a new place."

One of the most famous names to come out of Erinsborough, heart-throb Jason Donovan visited the resort at the height of his fame in the early 1990s.

He performed at the hugely-popular Radio 1 Roadshow, which toured seaside resorts during the summer months bringing top DJs and musical stars to town.

Anne was well known for playing Madge in the soap for 15 years and was a popular pairing with Harold Bishop, played by Ian Smith.

According to reports, the Neighbours stalwart is set to feature in the finale tonight - with some suggesting she may appear as a ghost following her character's death in 2001.
