Three paragliders spent nearly four hours stuck in a tree before being rescured by the coastguard.

As reported, three people were involved in a paragliding incident on Saturday afternoon at Eype.

They were airlifted to safety by a coastguard helicopter and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said those involved had been caught in a tree.

A spokesperson for MCA said: "HM Coastguard sent rescue teams from Lyme Regis and West Bay, as well as the coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-Solent, to reports of people stuck on a cliff near Seatown on Saturday (July 30). As the casualties were in a difficult to reach area, the decision was made to extract them using the helicopter.

"By 6.20pm they had been rescued and landed, safe and well, in a nearby caravan park.

"The initial emergency call came in at around 2.40pm."

The paragliders were uninjured but prompted a multi-agency response with ambulance, RNLI and coastguard crews all in attendance.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 14.30hrs on Saturday 30 July to an incident on the coast near Bridport. We sent an air ambulance and a hazardous area response team and tasked a coastguard helicopter in a multi-agency response”.
