WORK is set to get under way on more than 100 new homes in north Dorset.

Detailed plans for the 114 new homes on a 9.5 acre site off North Fields, next to Sturminster Newton United Football Club’s ground, were approved by Dorset Council in April.

Construction will begin later this month with the proposals comprising 85 two, three, and four-bedroom houses for private sale along with 29 affordable homes available to local people through shared ownership or low-cost rest.

Bellway, the property developers behind the homes, has announced it’ll be investing nearly £1.6million into services and facilities throughout Sturminster Newton as part of the development.

The investment includes £690,000 towards primary and secondary schools, £220,000 to the Honeymead Lane Education and Leisure Hub and more than £150,000 towards training and all-weather sports pitches. Further financial contributions will be committed for sustainable transport, allotments, libraries and healthcare.

The development will be called Corallian Heights in homage to the limestone geology from the Jurassic period, which is synonymous with Dorset.

Kim Caldwell, sales director for Bellway Wessex, said: “Corallian Heights will provide much-needed homes for this part of North Dorset and create a new neighbourhood that brings fresh investment to Sturminster Newton.

“We have worked closely with the local authority to tailor this development to reflect its setting on the edge of countryside, with new planting and new wildlife habitats included as an integral part of the vision for the scheme.

“The new homes will include a mix of designs to cater for the differing needs of buyers in the area, while new paths will provide pedestrian and cycle links to the sports and leisure facilities right on the doorstep.

“We are looking forward to starting work on site later this month and anticipate releasing the first homes for sale in January.”

Bellway is also planting new trees to enhance the existing woodland and hedgerow to the north of the site and creating a new landscaped recreational trail through the area. A new children’s play area will also be installed.
