A BOMB squad was called following reports 'a possible explosive device' had been found in a river in Dorchester.
Police say they received the report about the object which had been located in a river near to Frome Terrace at 3.27pm yesterday.
A cordon was put in place for hours after an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) was requested to attend in order to check the item and make it safe.
The item was not an explosive device and was removed.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 3.27pm on Thursday, August 4, that a possible explosive device had been located in a river near to Frome Terrace in Dorchester.
"Officers attended and a cordon was put in place for the safety of the public. The EOD attended and removed the item, which was not an explosive device. The cordon was lifted at around 7.50pm."
