Engineers have spruced up a hospital's moving 30-foot pencil sculpture.

Nigel Bartlett and Dan Pibworth from Townsend Engineering in Bridport performed the annual maintenance on the 30-foot tall sculpture called 'Blue and Red Crayons' at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

The sculpture is locally known as 'The Pencils'.

They were designed by Peter Logan as a kinetic sculpture to express the spirit and movement of life. They are designed to be viewed from the children's ward.

A spokesperson for Dorset County Hospital said: "Thanks to Nigel and Dan from Townsend Engineering in Bridport for 'sharpening' our pencils today!

"The Blue and Red Crayons sculpture by Peter Logan have had its annual spruce up. These two made sure it is in tip-top condition."

The sculpture belongs to the DCH Arts in Hospital Charity. The charity aims to use art to enhance the environment for patients and visitors. It has annual maintenance checks and Townsend Engineering in Bridport carried this out.
