A Poundbury resident has been served with an eviction notice - and claims it's because of a disagreement over plants.

As previously reported, Alexandra Wilson-Jones, who lives in Vickery Court, Poundbury, was left 'heartbroken' after representatives of the Duchy of Cornwall told her she must remove the majority of the plants outside her home back in June.

This, according to the Duchy, was on the basis that the collection of flowers looked ‘out of place’ with the surrounding courtyard.

At the time, the Duchy said the issue centred around the plants being placed on a communal courtyard without approval and Alexandra was asked to ‘significantly reduce’ the number of plants outside her home.

Alexandra now says she is ‘stunned’ to receive an eviction notice from her landlord.

She believes it's due to the disagreement over the plants.

She has been served with paperwork which calls for the landlord to require possession of the property – in which it states that she must leave her home after September 27 and now faces the ‘daunting’ situation of moving.

Ms Wilson-Jones said: “It’s brutal. There has been correspondence between landlords and agents and the notice just came out of nowhere. They’re desperate to get rid of me, what a horrible way to treat a model tenant.

“I’ve never been served with something like this. I’m disgusted they’d do this to me in this situation, I’m so annoyed with them. I’m now in an awkward position with living as my home is a building site and I now need to find somewhere new to live.”

Ms Wilson-Jones moved into the Poundbury house as an ‘in-between’ property whilst renovations were undertaken at her home. Unfortunately, work was started just before lockdown which meant, under the covid restrictions, builders were unable to complete the work, leaving the house resembling a building site that was unliveable.

She added: “I brought all my potted plants with me because I didn’t want them to be neglected and I didn’t want to travel the seven miles back to the house to water them. The Duchy knows they’re temporary and there will be no damage because they are potted.

“I’m stunned, I look after this place like Buckingham Palace, it’s just all really upset me as I love it here. The Duchy has even likened what I have done with the plants to fly-tipping. I’m not in breach of any Poundbury stipulations, I feel it’s simply because I didn’t ask for permission to have the plants. My landlord has even said they didn’t know I needed permission to place plant pots.”

The eviction notice came the same day that Ms Wilson-Jones was due to launch a direct petition to Prince Charles to allow the plants to stay. She maintains that the Prince of Wales’ involvement in the matter would have prevented her from being kicked out of her home. She is now looking for properties to rent as she prepares to leave her home before the end of September.

She added: “If this offends people, I just want to get off this planet! It’s been done with a lot of care and thought, and tastefully. And the planting takes up not even one per cent of the space, people love it!”

The Duchy of Cornwall has been approached for comment.
