A man has been seriously injured in a crash in Weymouth.

Emergency services were called to Newstead Road just after 11.40am this morning to reports of a crash involving two cars outside the Asda.

The collision involved a red Toyota Yaris and a black Vauxhall Zafira.

The driver of the Yaris, a man aged in his 30s, sustained serious back injuries and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not described as life-threatening injuries.

Traffic built up in the area as a result of the collision and police advised motorists to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.

Dorset Police now appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam to come forward.

Police Constable Jamie Ralphs, of Dorset Police, said: “An investigation into this collision is ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened, or captured it on dashcam, to please contact Dorset Police.

“The driver sustained serious injuries in this collision, and I would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience and understanding while we closed the road to allow emergency services to treat the injured driver and for collision investigators to examine the scene.”
