A MAN has been taken to hospital following a house fire in Weymouth this morning.

Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to reports of house fire in Broadmeadow Road in Wyke Regis just before 6am today (Tuesday, August 16).

One man has been taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service.

Broadmeadow Road was closed this morning for emergency services to deal with the incident and traffic in the area was said to be queuing as a result.

The road closure has since been removed and traffic is said to be back to normal. 

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 5.51am on Tuesday 16 August 2022 of a possible fire at an address in Broadmeadow Road in Weymouth. Officers attended with the fire service and located a fire at a property.

"One man has been taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service.

"The road is currently closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident."

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 5.50am this morning about a property fire on Broadmeadow Road, Weymouth.

"Two crews from Weymouth and one from Portland attended the incident, which involved a fire located in a bedroom on the first floor.

"Four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire – our stop came at 6.38am. Police and ambulance also attended."
