Volunteers who stepped in to feed exhausted fire crews during the Studland blaze have been thanked for their help.

Teams from Winton Salvation Army spent part of the weekend serving the fire crews tackling the blaze.

Posting on Faceboook, the group said: "It has been a privilege for The Salvation Army to be asked to undertake this ministry in a time of crisis.

"Thank you to all our volunteers, encouragers, people who've prayed for us, a lovely family who stopped by and donated water, bananas and biscuits and a lovely lady in Sainsbury's who paid yesterday's shopping supply bill.

"We are overwhelmed by the support from so many people. At 12 noon today we were stood down and a team of us have just cleared and emptied the unit. Thank you to everyone involved."

Swanage fire station expressed their thanks to the volunteers.

"It has been very hot and tiring work, so it has been a massive help to have the Salvation Army be with us for the last few days providing us with food and drink.

"It has made the job so much better for us and given us the energy to get the job done.

"We would also like to thank all those who have sent us supportive messages on social media and in person, and also those who have brought some treats to the fire station to keep us going."

Dozens of comments of support for both the fire crews and volunteers were posted in response.

One said: "Not all heroes wear capes, great job everyone."

Another said: "Thank you so much, and all those that supported you, for using your skills to stop that fire becoming even worse than it was. Well done The Salvation Army for keeping everyone fed and watered. You are all heroes."
