Ryanair have apologised to passengers after an issue with a plane left passengers sat on  board ‘in sauna-like temperatures’.

The issue with the plane due to fly from Bournemouth Airport to Palma on Tuesday meant passengers were ‘trapped’ on the grounded plane on the runway.

One passenger described the scene as ‘chaos’ saying passengers were 'trapped' on the plane.

He claimed there was no water handed out, but Ryanair have said refreshments were made available to passengers throughout the delay.

The passenger said: “We’ve been sat in sauna like heat since 11am and people are holding delirious kids asking for help and no one is doing anything.

“My little girls are feeling really sick, and others are struggling. We’ve been sat here in sauna conditions for three hours.”

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “This flight from Bournemouth to Palma was delayed ahead of take-off due to a minor technical issue which also affected the aircraft’s air conditioning system.

“To minimise disruption to passengers, Ryanair quickly arranged an alternative aircraft which passengers were transferred to before departing safely for Palma at 3pm local. Refreshments were made available to passengers throughout the delay.

“Ryanair sincerely apologises to affected passengers for any inconvenience caused by this minor delay, which was entirely beyond Ryanair’s control.”

A spokesperson for Bournemouth Airport said as the issue was an airline matter, they were unable to comment.

It is understood passengers were transferred to the plane which had arrived at Bournemouth from Zadar in Croatia at lunchtime.

Last month, Bournemouth Airport apologised to passengers after two flights were delayed by more than three hours with passengers left “suffering” inside hot planes.

On this occasion, the issues were due to sickness among air traffic control and other staff at the airport.

On this occasion, passengers also said they were not offered refreshments either, despite a statement saying otherwise.
