We, like many businesses, were closed last Monday out of respect for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
It was lovely to see her beloved Fell pony, Emma, standing in the grounds of Windsor Castle paying last respects to her owner. The Queen was a true animal lover, and we all know that provision has been made for the animals that were under her care when she died.
What happens to the pets of elderly owners if they go into hospital or pass away can be a real worry. In the absence of friends and family, I have seen this be a cause of real anxiety to my clients.
There is a wonderful charity out there called the Cinnamon Trust which I have had dealings with over the years and for which I have nothing but praise. This charity aims to support pets staying with their owners through ill health, hospital visits and other pitfalls of later life.
They provide dog walkers and pet carers to go into houses. Then, after the death of an owner, they will provide foster care and rehoming for pets where possible.
The Cinnamon Trust is not one of those charities that gets huge publicity, but I really believe that the work they do is important.
I see pets being an invaluable support to my older clients and keeping that support in place is vital, as is peace of mind for owners knowing that their pets will be looked after when they are gone.
Everyone’s pets deserve the same thought as the Queen’s corgis, so if you are looking to donate money to an animal charity this year do not forget the Cinnamon Trust.
