A callout to an unattended climbing rope near Anvil Point turned out to be a false alarm for Swanage Lifeboat's rescue team.

In what was their seventh spring to action already this month both lifeboats raced to the scene and were tasked with searching the area at the base of the cliff where the rope had been spotted.

Meanwhile, one crew member from the inshore lifeboat hopped ashore to see what the rope could have been stuck on.

Upon inspection, it appeared that the rope had become wrapped around a rock and jammed in place on the cliff, and as such the team cut the rope so it could be removed to prevent any further calls to the incident.

The base of the cliff was also searched to ensure that no one was stuck.

After returning to the station the lifeboat issued a reminder of what members of the public should do when they have finished using their kit, they said: "It was thought that the rope had simply been left in place when it jammed.

"We recommend that any discarded equipment is reported to the UK Coastguard to prevent false alarms."
