Weymouth councillor David Gray has left the Liberal Democrat group on Dorset Council.

The Radipole ward councillor, who was elected in 2019, has declined to say why he made the move but says he remains a Lib Dem on Weymouth Town Council and is still a member of the national party.

Lib Dem group leader Nick Ireland has also decided not to comment on the situation other than to confirm the change.

Cllr Gray is known for his forensic examination of council documents and proposals, has been a regular attender at meetings and has fought a number of local issues in his ward which he shares with Cllr Pete Barrow (Lib Dem).

According to Dorset Council the change has resulted in 43 seats held by Conservatives; 27 Lib Dem; 5 Green Party; 4 Alliance for Local Living (independents); 2 independent and one Labour and Co-Operative.
