A FIREWORK display in Weymouth has announced it will not go ahead for the second year running.

Southill Fireworks were cancelled in 2021 due to concerns over Covid-19 with the owner stating that running an event that could attract crowds of up to 3000 people was not 'socially responsible'.

But now firework enthusiasts will have to wait another year for the Southill event after the owner, Jon Gabb, confirmed the show will not go ahead next month due to health conditions, although he hopes to return with a 'huge bang' in 2023.

Earlier this year Jon suffered a heart attack shortly after turning 50 and as such, was out of work for a number of months that followed.

A statement from Jon on the Southill Fireworks Facebook page said: "Sadly and to much regret, due to my ill health earlier this year, I will not be organising Southill Fireworks Event this year 2022... sorry.

"I (we) do very much intend to come back with a huge bang, as always... bigger and better next year 2023.

"Thank you for your support and see you all next year.

"Lookout for updates throughout next year.

"Hope you all stay safe and well.

"PLEASE NOTE: The website is down for now. A new one will be made ready for next."

Following the shock heart attack earlier in the year a crowdfunding page was launched to help financially support Jon and his family while he was unable to work which raised £1340.
