There are lengthy tailbacks on the A35 after a car left the road and ended up in a ditch.

Emergency services were called to Winterbourne Abbas just before 3.20pm this afternoon. 

Police, fire and ambulance services rushed to the scene near The Coach House Inn.

The road was closed while they dealt with the incident and reopened about 4pm.

Traffic is moving again, albeit slowly. 

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters arrived to find the car on its side. 

A spokesman said: "Crew from Dorchester attended and found a car on its side in a ditch; firefighters helped the driver out of the vehicle."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said one patient was taken to Dorset County Hospital.
