WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson called on the Terras to “be brave” as they attempt to cause an FA Cup first round shock over AFC Wimbledon tomorrow (3pm).

Weymouth are expecting a Bob Lucas Stadium crowd well into four figures as they venture into the main draw for the first time since 2007, when they beat Eastbourne Borough 4-0.

Their first appearance for 15 years in the competition proper comes against an AFC Wimbledon side who were relegated last season.

The Dons currently reside 15th in League Two, some 58 places above Weymouth in the English football pyramid.

And with a professional Football League team coming to Dorset, Wilkinson urged his side to leave everything out on the pitch as they chase their slice of FA Cup history.

He told Echosport: “It’s a huge occasion. We deserved to get there with some of the teams we’ve played.

“Let’s enjoy this moment, they don’t come round that often.

“It’s making sure we compete, be brave and try and overcome a League football club.

“You’ve got to be 100 per cent at it. Some players might not get this opportunity again. It’s my first time and I would like to get to the second round.

“That’s why we strive to be in football – for these moments. I was always told: ‘Don’t allow the moment to pass you by’.

“I just hope we turn up, perform, be brave on the day and we really conduct ourselves as a unit.”

With such a big game on the horizon, Wilkinson is delighted with Weymouth’s groundwork.

“Preparation has been very good,” he said. “We’ve worked extremely hard on them but we do that whoever we’re playing.

“We worked just as hard as we did last week and the week before. Now the boys have to cross the white line, believe in themselves, rise to the challenge. Anything can happen because it’s FA Cup day.”

On the large crowd expected at the Bob Lucas, Wilkinson added: “We’d love a 12th man, we need to get a good atmosphere in the club.

“To do that, we’ve got to get them off their seats, get them standing, clapping and shouting loud by playing entertaining football, getting the ball forward and creating chances.

“As a we, on and off the park, we’ve all got to come together. We’ve got to let everyone know we’re at home.”

Weymouth are without the cup-tied Ben Gerring but will be allowed use of Exeter City loanee centre-back Ed James.

The Terras are still in the market for a defender having missed out on their second target last week.

Weymouth have already received £18,375 in prize money, plus £5,000, for BBC match highlights of this tie. The winners will pocket an extra £41,000 with nothing handed to the losers.

There will be a replay at AFC Wimbledon’s Plough Lane should the game end in a draw.
