WEYMOUTH Wildcats’ search for a suitable venue continues to delay aspirations for a new multi-use stadium, co-promoter James Tresadern has confirmed.

Wildcats have been without a permanent home since 2010 and were a nomadic club when reformed in 2017.

That status then put paid to their league competition as the British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA) banned such clubs from the development circuit in 2020.

Wildcats have already revealed they have investors interested in backing a new multi-use stadium, partly funded by grants for disability sports and more.

Wildcats are hopeful their plans would effectively create a new sporting hub in the town.

Should they find a location, it must be more than 30 miles from Poole Pirates’ Wimborne Road home or at a distance agreeable to both parties.

However, the main sticking point remains the sourcing of suitable land.

Tresadern told Echosport: “We haven’t put anything substantial down on paper because obviously we’d need to find the land first before we start thinking how big we can get.

“You don’t want to make massive plans for a stadium and find that somebody says you can only get a five-a-side pitch in the middle.

“It depends on what sort of land we could get. It gives you motivation to find somewhere because there’s a lot of people that want and miss speedway in Weymouth.

“Nobody’s come forward regarding land but there are a couple of people nodding towards a certain area, not far from the old track.

“I just think there’s too many houses around there. I don’t think that’s viable.”

Wildcats would not reveal the exact location but it is understood to be close to the town.
