MAYOR of Weymouth Councillor Ann Weaving will be planting the first of several oak saplings in Tumbledown to celebrate National Tree Week.

The celebratory week, which takes place now until December 4, will see the Mayor head to Tumbledown near Radipole Lane in Southill at 11am on Friday, December 2.

The tree will commemorate the Friends of Tumbledown group, which was set up earlier this year to help with volunteering, recruiting volunteers, and fundraising for equipment and events.

Following this, further saplings will be planted by members of the Friends group to form a collection of trees at the bottom of the Tumbledown site.

Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “I’m looking forward to planting a tree at Tumbledown and being involved in the celebration of the people who have taken the time to volunteer at the former farm which Weymouth Town Council is transforming into a community asset.”

On the same day, Dorset Council will be hosting a 'Celebration of Volunteer Heroes' where they will be planting 25 to 30 fruit trees which will form an avenue along the access path from the top of Tumbledown.

It will be followed with a thank you to all the brilliant people who have kindly given their time to support others in Weymouth.

All the trees planted at this event will be registered with the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative which has been extended to March 2023.
