Snow was spotted falling in parts of Dorset in the early hours of this morning.

It comes after the Met Office issued the county with a weather warning.

There were reports of snow starting to fall in parts of Weymouth, Portland and some areas of Dorchester as of 1am today (Wednesday).

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice will remain in place until 10am on Wednesday.

Heavier snow is forecast for 2am.

According to the Met Office's weather warning, delays are expected on public transport and on the roads during the cold weather, with the yellow warning covering the entirety of the county.

Some roads and railways likely to be affected, leading to longer journey times by car, as well as bus and train services," the Met Office said.

"Snow and sleet falling on frozen surfaces may lead to icy conditions, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.

"The combination of wind and snow may cause some drifting and very poor visibilities, especially over hills and moors."

"Mostly light snow across the south west on Tuesday afternoon may become a little heavier and more widespread into Tuesday night, before clearing southwards on Wednesday

"Near some coasts, sleet is more likely, especially at first, but this brings an ice risk."
