A stretch of Watery Lane in Upwey, Weymouth, will be temporarily closed for nearly two months in early January whilst a water main is replaced.
The road will be closed for the work on Tuesday, January 3 and is anticipated to be completed on Friday, February 24.
Some 510 metres of the road will be closed from the junction to Stottingway Street, to the junction with the access road to Wey Valley Farm.
This is to allow Wessex Water safe access whilst workers replace the water main.
An alternative vehicular route will be signposted and go through; Stottingway Street, Dorchester Road, Mill Street and Watery Lane.
A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: “All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Watery Lane between its junction with Stottingway Street and its junction with the access road to Wey Valley Farm.
"The order is needed to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.”
