WEYMOUTH boss Bobby Wilkinson revealed a costly administrative error led to centre-half Dan Matsuzaka being left out of the Terras’ line-up against Taunton.

Matsuzaka was understood to have been named among the starters, given Weymouth’s defensive injury crisis.

However, a mix-up with the team sheet led to the former Southend man being missed off the list, forcing Weymouth to name only four subs.

Matsuzaka’s loss was amplified when centre-back Charlie Rowan went off with a suspected dislocated collar bone.

It meant midfielder Xander McBurnie retreated into central defence with Nathan Carlyle Weymouth’s only recognised defender in the entire back four.

Tom Bearwish and Scott Rees, both midfielders, had to fill in at full-back.

Matsuzaka was seen warming up pre-match and Wilkinson confirmed he was not injured.

Pushed on his absence, Wilkinson told Echosport: “I don’t know why that happened.

“He’s named in the team but he wasn’t on the team sheet. Now you can see why I’m even more frustrated.

“He was fit, available, it was a mix-up with the team sheet so I’ve been told. That’s why I had to move Xander back.

“We keep doing silly mistakes. The coach (being late at Dulwich), then that. I don’t know the incident, all I know is I couldn’t bring him on.”
