A driver was rescued by emergency services early this morning after being trapped in their van.

Emergency services attended a crash on Piddle Lane, Cerne Abbas, at 2.30am which flipped a van onto its side with the driver trapped inside and requiring rescue.

The driver was treated by paramedics for minor injuries after being removed.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “At 2.27am we received a call from Dorset Police reporting a road traffic collision resulting in a single vehicle being on its side.

"One fire engine from each of Maiden Newton and Dorchester fire stations were mobilised to investigate.

"Once in attendance the crew found a van was on its side with one person inside was unable to get out.

"The crews stabilised the vehicle before using a ladder to help free the occupant of the vehicle, who was treated by South Western Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 2.21am of a single vehicle collision at Piddle Lane in Cerne Abbas. Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services, and road closures were put in place. One man was treated for minor injuries and officers left the scene at around 4.50am.”

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 2.29am to an incident in the Cerne Abbas area. We sent a double-crewed land ambulance and an operations officer. We conveyed one patient to Dorset County Hospital.”
