A FIRE started from a laundry room at a Weymouth seafront hotel in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters from Weymouth were called to the Esplanade at 4.38am yesterday morning (Wednesday, February 1).

The blaze, which had originated in the laundry room, had been reported by a member of staff working at the venue.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that it sent two fire engines to investigate.

Once in attendance, it emerged that staff had put out the fire using fire extinguishers prior to the fire crews arriving.

There were no reports of any injuries at the incident, the fire service added, saying they were 'satisfied' the blaze had started 'accidentally'.

"We were called to a hotel on The Esplanade in Weymouth at 4.38am yesterday morning [Wednesday] for a small fire in the laundry room," a spokesperson for the fire service said.

"Two crews from Weymouth attended (two from Portland were mobilised but were turned back en route) and found the fire had been extinguished by a member of staff, so no further action was needed.

"Our stop was at 5.01am and we are satisfied that the fire started accidentally."
