A ROCK 'N' ROLL singer who would draw crowds of people into pubs for his popular gigs is making a comeback for his 80th birthday.

Adrian Still, better known as Jumpin' Jimmy Thunder, will take to the stage once again to mark his milestone birthday.

He is keen for as many people as possible to come and join him at the Wyke Working Men's Club in Wyke Regis on March 17 from 7pm.

Jimmy, who has been well known on the Weymouth music scene for many years, celebrated his 80th birthday on March 2 with a tea party at the Phoenix Care & Support Services accommodation where he lives in Weymouth.

He also enjoyed a lunch and a trip out with his friend Dave.

Jimmy's big comeback gig - which will see him performing with the Originals - will see the performer back in one of his typically flamboyant outfits.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to performing again. I've got my outfit ready with my Elvis belt and I'm going to be doing some Elvis numbers.

"I'm hoping a lot of my friends will come along and anyone else who remembers me.

"I can't wait to be back on the stage again but I'll be taking it a lot easier than I used to."

Back in the 1980s the long-gone Golden Eagle pub in Weymouth town centre became nationally famous for hosting Jimmy's gigs.

People came from miles around to hear Jimmy perform thanks to word of mouth.

Sadly the era of Jimmy at the Eagle came to an abrupt end in 1988 when the Golden Eagle closed.

The site remained derelict until 1998 when the pub was demolished to make way for Weymouth's new town centre.

Jimmy most recently performed a gig at Weymouth 'Workies' to celebrate his 76th birthday.

Phoenix Care & Support Services is organising Jimmy's comeback gig and party.

Abbotsbury Road Team Leader Amanda Edmonds said: "Jimmy has been living under Phoenix Care Support for the last 20 years and he's really happy.

"He goes out on plenty of outings and has a lot of support here. We know he's so excited for his 80th birthday gig."

Everyone is welcome to attend Jimmy's 80th birthday gig at Wyke Regis Working Mens Club in Portland Road, Wyke Regis, on Friday, March 17. It starts at 7pm and will continue until late. Entry is free.
