Hundreds of runners took on the eighth Weymouth Half Marathon on a sunny Mother's Day.

Crowds gathered along the seafront as runners completed a 13.1 mile route around the town.

Athletes began at Weymouth Pavilion at 8 am, before they made their way around the town as far as Portland Beach Road and back, across the seafront then out to Overcombe Corner before returning to the finish line back in front of the Pavilion.

Runners were treated to sunny conditions with light wind for the race.

Finishing in first place on the day was Christian Green with an incredibly fast time of 1:10:32.

Christian, 36, a garden designer from Wells in Somerset, was delighted with the conditions.

He said: "It is a PB by a little way so I am very pleased.

"It is stunning today, the weather couldn't be better. The reason I wanted to come and do the Weymouth Half Marathon was because of the location and it is such a beautiful place.

The fastest-finishing female was Natalie Lawrence, who also won the Weymouth Ironman in September 2022.

Dorset Echo:

Nathalie is an online triathlon coach who runs beach boot camps in Weymouth during the summer.

She said: "It is lovely, me and my family moved from Bedfordshire about a year ago, so now this is my home town.

"It is a real privilege and it is so beautiful to run here today.

"We all knew it would be a bit blowy given the fact we are by the sea, but you can't ask for better conditions than this, the sun is out and the support was great even for 8.00 am on Mother's Day.

"I am a mum of four, they are aged five, six, seven and eight.

"It just shows that you can still have a family and achieve what you want to achieve."

Some runners also appeared in fancy dress, with a shark, a clown and a milkman all taking on the Weymouth run.

Giles Heaman, completed the race dressed as a shark in support of his local running group.

Dorset Echo:

He said: "I am a south coast shark, that's our little training group and so I thought I would race as a shark today, I just wanted to have a bit of fun.

"It was really nice out on the course loads of kids shouting 'It's a shark!'.

"Beautiful sunshine, great crowds, lots of people out all the way around the course cheering people on.

"I was the fastest in my category, I was the fastest fish here today."
