Pictures have been released showing the inside of a barge which is set to host 506 asylum seekers at Portland Port.

The Bibby Stockholm vessel has 222 en-suite bedrooms, but also features a bar, a gym, a kitchen and dining hall and Wifi throughout the ship.

The barge will be set to arrive in Portland in the "coming months", with the boat remaining at Portland Port for at least 18 months.

It will home 506 single-adult males whilst their asylum claims are processed.

The barge will provide accommodation, healthcare provision, catering facilities and round-the-clock security.

The barge will be the first of its kind in the UK, with more barges like this one set to be looked at by the Home Office.

The barge was previously used in Germany and the Netherlands to house asylum seekers.
