Those hoping to throw a King's coronation event in Weymouth are in luck - the deadline for a £350 grant has been extended.

Local charities and organisations can apply for grants of up to £350 to put on community picnics, flower shows, art projects, exhibitions or displays to celebrate the coronation.

A £3,500 grant pot is available to support charity, community groups, not-for-profit organisations and schools to celebrate in Weymouth.

A maximum of £350 will be available to any one group to meet the costs of community events over the special bank holiday weekend (May 6 -May 8).

The coronation of King Charles III will take place on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.

Among the events planned in the town include a concert and fireworks display on Weymouth beach on Sunday, May 7

The coronation community concert on the beach will feature local acts, performance groups and a local headline band.

Dorset Council car parks in the area will also be made free to attract more people to attend the events.

Chairman of Weymouth Town Council's services committee, Cllr Ryan Hope, said: “Offering these grants will help local communities and residents come together to celebrate this wonderful event.

“Weymouth Town Council is keen to hear from organisations that are interested in holding events for their communities so we can help with funding to meet costs or purchase materials you might need. We hope all organisers will think about ensuring their events are as environmentally friendly as possible.”
