Cream teas will be enjoyed to mark the Coronation of King Charles III at a church he opened as a Prince.

Age UK North, South and West Dorset are hosting a cream tea to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III called ‘The King’s Cream Tea.'

It will be held in the Dorchester Community Church in Poundbury, which was opened by the King in 2018 when he was the Prince of Wales.

Rachel Weiss, Community Engagement Manager said: “We are really excited to be hosting this event, we want to bring people together to celebrate, enjoy one another’s company, and of course enjoy a delicious cream tea, it’s a great way for people to celebrate a moment in history.”

The church moved to Poundbury from Acland Road, Dorchester, in 2018. The church community made the decision to move its premises to Poundbury following an invitation from the Duchy.

When the then-Prince Charles came to Poundbury in 2018 to open the church he was greeted by pupils from Damers First School, who presented him with a birthday card before he unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening.

The charity will be providing traditional cream teas, with the help of a local vintage tea company, Elm Vintage Teas, and bottomless tea, with the support of Dorset Tea, followed by an afternoon of singing.

Rachel added: “We have run a couple of similar cream tea events over the last year, and they have been extremely well received, we held a celebration for the Jubilee, which was a sell-out - it was so fantastic to see so many people together again, after the pandemic. We would like as many people as possible to join us to celebrate to Coronation of King Charles III.”

The event will take place on Friday, May 5 from 2pm to 4pm at the Dorchester Community Church, Liscombe Street, Poundbury.

The Coronation itself will take place on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. It will begin at 11am.

Tickets for the cream tea are priced at £6 per person, to book your place please call Age UK North South & West Dorset on 01305 269444, or email fundraising@ageuknswd.org.uk
