A young saxophonist from Dorset has celebrated 15 years in the industry.

Tom Waters, 22, recently hosted a ’15 Years of Saxophone’ gig at Cadogan Hall in London where he was accompanied by some special guests.

The concert saw Tom perform alongside musicians including Hamish Stuart, Josephine de la Baume, Joseph Lawrence and Louise Clare Marshall in an evening that he described as ‘a lot of fun.’

The rhythm and blues, jazz saxophone player also released an EP alongside his band Electric People to celebrate, which features a collection of live recordings from the band's European tour.

Tom started playing the saxophone just before he turned eight after being inspired by his father, boogie woogie musician Ben Waters.

He said: “My dad is a musician and when I was six, he had a gig in Scotland with a band called Rocket 88 and I said I wanted to go along.

“It was freezing, and the flight was delayed so I didn’t have enough time to get a jumper, so my dad sat me on the leg of a marquee, and I watched the saxophone players for hours and fell in love with it.”

He explained that he went on about it for two more years, until he was finally bought his very own saxophone.

Tom started his professional career with his father at the age of eight, two-weeks prior to actually picking the saxophone up and the pair spent the next few years touring around the world.

From a young age, he has worked with a number of big names in the industry from the Rolling Stones, who he initially worked with alongside his dad, then solo later on in his career;

He has also worked with Ray Davies from the Kinks and Jeff Beck, although after a lot of deliberation Tom said that one of his favourite people to work with in the industry is bassist, Moyses Dos Santos.

He said that they: “Write songs for people like Emeli Sandé, and you never know who he’s going to bring into the studio – it never feels like you’re working at all.”

The musician also has experience working on adverts as well as modelling and has just been working with Michael Kors in Cannes.

Tom has recently finished his final year of studies at the Royal Academy of Music and now plans to spend a lot more time focusing on his career.

Alongside his band, Tom is also set to play a show at Café Oasis in Weymouth on Saturday, July 1 and tickets are available to purchase for £39 by emailing: gigs@cafeoasis.co.uk
