A LOCOMOTIVE named after the Bahamas will be steaming into town next month.

Its forthcoming visit means another date in the diary for rail enthusiasts, who have been enjoying the frequent visits of 'seaside special' steam trains over the summer season.

Locomotive 45596 Bahamas will visit Dorset for the day on Thursday, August 17.

Bahamas will feature on the Dorset Coast Express tour, which boards at London Victoria, Staines, Woking, Basingstoke, and Bournemouth on its way to Weymouth.

Train timings will be listed when they are made available.

Bahamas is a London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Jubilee Class and in May 1961 was under the ownership of British Railways.

In July 1966, Bahamas was withdrawn from traffic. A preservation society was founded and raised the money to purchase it from British Rail to prevent it from being scrapped.
