FOOTBALLING hero Kevin Keegan will visit Weymouth on Saturday, October 7 (7.30pm) as part of a club fundraiser for Balti Sports.

Keegan, 72, enjoyed a distinguished career as both a player and manager for England and Newcastle United.

The striker bagged 21 goals in 63 games for his country and went on to manage the Three Lions between 1999 and 2000.

As a player, he twice won the Ballon d’Or, given to the world’s best player in a calendar year, in 1978 and 1979 while at German giants Hamburg, with whom he also won the Bundesliga title.

However, he is perhaps best known for his time at Liverpool.

While with the Reds he won the European Cup, three First Division titles, became a two-time UEFA Cup winner and added the FA Cup to his glistening trophy cabinet.

Keegan, who began his career at Scunthorpe, went on to play at Southampton and later took charge of Manchester City for four years.

Given Keegan’s rich footballing experiences, Balti boss Marco Nott believes the fundraiser will be a roaring success after similar nights involving Matt Le Tissier, Neil Ruddock and Paul Merson.

Nott told Echosport: “He’s a big name so it’s going to be an exciting evening.

“We’ve upped the bar massively with Kevin Keegan coming in and for my personal self being a Newcastle fan it’s going to be a great time for me and the family spending time with such a legend.

“He’s such an iconic name in the footballing world and we’re very much looking forward to it.

“The list could go on and on with his honours, so he’s a special guest.”

Some 120 tickets are available, at £50 each, including a talk by Keegan, comedy and a meal at the Hotel Rembrandt.

There will also be a raffle, auction and live music from Slight Return. Call Nott for more details on 07885 678027.
