A MAN reportedly fled from a two-car collision in Weymouth with an 'injury to their head' which led to a major police response.

Dorset Police was called to Rylands Lane, Wyke Regis, by the ambulance service at 9.44am.

There had been a two-vehicle collision in the road between an off-road buggy and a parked campervan, a spokesperson for the force said.

One of the drivers then allegedly 'made off' from the scene with a head injury as police officers launched a major search.

Witnesses reported seeing several police vehicles and police dogs in the vicinity of Wyke Regis and Lanehouse Medical Practice in Portland Road.

Police eventually found the injured person and they were taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester for treatment and are being accompanied by police officers.

The Dorset Police spokesperson said there was 'concern' for the injured person's 'welfare' which led to the large emergency response.

"It was a two-vehicle RTC. Somebody was clearly injured so we spent our resources looking for them," they added.

Dorset Police added that an investigation is ongoing regarding the incident.
