THE A35 near the Dorset border was closed this morning after a car reportedly hit a tree.

Devon and Cornwall Police said that two people have been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries, while three people sustained minor injuries.

Officers were called to the busy road at 4.23am this morning following reports of a single-vehicle crash between Kilmington and Shute near Axminster.

It was reported that the car had been in collision with a tree.

The A35 was closed both ways this morning as emergency crews dealt with the scene.

Traffic is slow following the crash between Studhayes Road and Old Taunton Road and is affecting traffic between Honiton and Axminster.

Drivers travelling from Dorset in the east were also being urged to avoid the road this morning.
