A horse was rescued after becoming trapped up to its neck in a river.

The horse became stuck at Hains Lane, Marnhull, yesterday morning.

A Technical Rescue crew from Weymouth Fire Station responded and was supported by a crew from Shaftesbury.

The rescue team said members entered the water with the horse and after helping it get unstuck, used food to lure it along the river to a point where it could get out.

The horse is safe and recovering in a stable with its owner. A vet is providing care.

A spokesperson from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "Our Technical Rescue crew from Weymouth accompanied by a support crew from Shaftesbury were called to a horse stuck in a river with water up to its neck at Hains Lane, Marnhull.

"The Technical Rescue team entered the water with the horse, helping it from its stuck position and then using food to lure it along the river to a suitable exit point. The horse is now safe and recovering in a stable with its owner and a vet providing care."
