Another huge cruise ship has arrived at Portland.

Norwegian Dawn arrived at Portland Port at around 11.15am today according to local enthusiast Zoe Ayton.

It arrived in Dorset after travelling overnight from Cobh, Ireland with more than 2,000 passengers onboard.

The Norwegian Cruise Line vessel, a regular visitor to Portland, was built in 2002. It was 'christened' in an elaborate ceremony in New York by Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall.

As reported, the area has received a major economy boost thanks to the number of passenger liners visiting Portland Port, especially during 'Super September' as the port breaks a series of cruise call records.

The reason for this uptake in calls has been the port's £26m investment in a deep-water berth, allowing visits from larger vessels.

Another record will be broken on September 30, with the two largest cruise ships set to dock at the port, bringing in an estimated 8,000 passengers between them.
