Roads across parts of Weymouth will be closed whilst 'worn' roads are surfaced.

Seventeen roads in the Preston and Lodmoor areas will be closed during the day whilst they undergo micro-surfacing as part of a council programme of works.

The road closures will not happen all at once. The first road closures will start today and go on until Friday, October 13.

The work will be carried out by Dorset Council's contractors, Kiely. Affected households are being sent leaflets before the work starts.

Road closures will be from 8am to 5pm. An onsite team member will be available to address any queries.

Residents are asked not to park vehicles on the road or verges when the work is due to start.

The roads that will be closed for micro-resurfacing this week are:
Baydon Close
Telford Close
Hawkesworth Close
Collett Close
Maunsell Avenue CDS area
Stroudley Crescent
Wainwright Close
Churchward Avenue
Brunel Drive
Maunsell Avenue
Stanier Road
Barton Drive
Moorcombe Drive, inc spur
Rhosewood Drive
Carlton Road North
Hetherley Road
Westbourne Road

Micro-surfacing seals the road, improves the texture and prevents water ingress. It is a cost-effective treatment for worn, but not structurally failing, roads that keep them in good condition.

On application, the micro-asphalt may look ‘open’ with some loose chippings. However, after a few weeks (or longer, depending on traffic volumes) the material will bed in. It is not recommended that the material is rolled as this brings the ‘binder’, which sits below the surface, to the top; this would affect the final texture and performance. The contractor may sweep up any excess chippings.
