A Weymouth park regeneration is continuing as volunteers vital to the process have won an award.

Radipole Park and Gardens has now received new play equipment that will be installed over the coming weeks, and the new sports court area is ‘progressing well’, meaning it can soon be resurfaced.

The regeneration of the park is part of a £1 million investment received through the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

It has been a joint effort from the Friends of Radipole Park & Gardens community group and Weymouth Town Council.

The community group was also recognised with the Team of the Year Award at the Volunteer Centre Dorset Volunteer Celebration Evening earlier this month.

The award highlights their dedication and tireless efforts in making Radipole Park a remarkable and inclusive space for all.

A spokesperson for Weymouth Town Council said: "It will provide, amongst other things, a new refreshment kiosk, play area, sensory garden, and toilet facilities once construction works are completed.

“The initial request for the project came from the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens applying at stage one of the Lottery funding process.

“The Council were then asked to join at that stage and we have worked very closely with the Friends and the National Lottery Heritage Fund all the way through the project.

“The Friends committee are all volunteers who have stuck with the project over a number of years and showed exceptional dedication and commitment to seeing the project through.

“The Council are grateful for this commitment as it means the community are involved in helping shape the end result. This is a great example of the community and the Council working together to enhance an existing facility that will benefit the wider community for years to come.”

The investment has already funded the construction of a new kiosk which the council is now seeking to award a new lease opportunity for a food and drink operator.

However, due to a slight delay the kiosk will not be ready to use until February 2024 and the last time to apply for the tendering process is by midday on November 13.
