An exciting Christmas market that promises 100 different stalls is returning to Dorset.

The Poundbury Christmas market returns this year to Crown Square on Saturday, December 2 between 10am and 4pm.

Promoting Small Business Saturday on the same day, the market always takes place on the first Saturday in December and is about supporting local businesses.

Last year’s market welcomed 85 independent traders to the square, and this year the number is set to reach 100.

First operating in the Buttermarket eight years ago, the non-profit market has gone from strength to strength, reinvesting all money raised in pitch fees to the market for insurances, hire equipment, marketing and more to expand.

An array of local food, drink and crafted items will be available to buy from stalls and there will be live music on the day.

Children will also get the chance to meet Santa Claus at the Head Elf Station outside Boo’s Toy Shop between 10am to 3.45pm - no booking is required, and entry is £10 per child.

Event organiser Charlotte Fancy said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Poundbury Christmas Market in Crown Square once again this year. This year will be eighth Christmas Market in Poundbury.

“Eight years ago, we wanted to create something special and what started with 20 stalls has now grown to 100 small businesses,” she added.

Road closures will be put in place for the safety of visitors, residents and traders and will come into effect from Friday, December 1 at 5.30pm to Saturday, December 2 at 6pm.

Dugdale Road, Liscombe Street, Crown Street West, Crown Square and Anning Lane will be closed whilst Canford Street will be closed at the junction with St Walburgs Street.
