A man who sexually abused two girls has been jailed.

Glyn Robert Phelps aged 60, was found guilty at an earlier trial of ten charges of indecent assault of a girl aged under 14 and five offences of gross indecency of a girl aged under 14.

The offences occurred in the 1980s in the Weymouth and Portland area and involved two child victims.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with an extended licence period of a further year.

The first victim came forward to report matters to police in July 2020 and as part of the police investigation into the case, an allegation involving the second victim was disclosed.

Detective Constable George Boast, of the Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “For these victims to come forward and report these offences to police has taken immense bravery on their part and they have also shown strength and courage to support the subsequent investigation and court process.

“I hope this will inspire other victims of sexual offences, including non recent sexual abuse, to come forward and report matters in the knowledge that they will be supported and we will take action.

“Glyn Phelps subjected two girls to horrific abuse at a young age and we have now been able to seek justice for these victims and hold him to account for his offending behaviour.”
