Aerial scenes from Dorchester show the impact of the flooding from the River Frome to the north of the town.

This comes after much of the county has been submerged due to various rivers being flooded, due to the saturated ground and high river levels after Storm Ciaran.

The dramatic pictures, taken by Graham Hunt Photography using a drone, shows cars moving slowly down the Old Sherborne Road to get into Dorchester.

Dorset Echo:

Roads around the county town had been closed earlier today (Tuesday, December 5) due to the flooding. The B3143 Slyers Lane, which was closed both ways from Frome Whitfield at the turn off to B3150 before the Kingston Maurward roundabout.

A spokesperson from the Environment Agency said: “River levels are high and rising at the Stinsford river gauge. River levels are high on the Lower River Frome between Dorchester and Wareham due to the heavy rainfall.

“Flooding is forecast to affect locations on the River Frome in the Dorchester, West Stafford, Bockhampton, Lewell, Tincleton, Pallington, Waddock, Moreton, Wool and East Stoke areas,” they added.

Dorset Echo: The spokesperson continued, advising people to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and to not attempt walking or driving through flood water.

The warning was put in place on Monday evening, and is not due to be updated until tomorrow (Wednesday, December 6)

 A yellow rain warning has been put in place by the Met Office for the county for Thursday, December 7 meaning that there could be more flooding in the area to come.

Speaking about what people can expect over the week in terms of weather, a spokesperson from the Met Office said: “A change is on its way as the weather turns milder, wetter and windier. Spells of heavy rain and showers are expected with brisk winds. Though not feeling as cold.”
