There is no train service from Dorset to London Waterloo today due to industrial action by train drivers.

ASLEF, the union for train drivers are striking on Wednesday, December 6, meaning there will be no South Western Railway (SWR) trains in operation from Weymouth.

Trains will be running elsewhere on the SWR network between London Waterloo and Basingstoke, Feltham, Woking, Guildford and between Basingstoke and Salisbury.

They will only operate on these routes between the hours of 7am and 7pm. There will be no other services, on any lines, outside of these times.

SWR customers are urged to only travel if absolutely necessary and to check their entire journey carefully if they must travel.

Stuart Meek, Chief Operating Officer for South Western Railway, said: “We’re sorry that national industrial action will again impact SWR services for the first nine days of December.

“ASLEF will take strike action on Wednesday, December 6, meaning we will run an extremely limited service, and we must urge our customers to only travel if absolutely necessary on that day.

“During other days of industrial action, customers should check their entire journeys before setting off, as there will be some cancellations and drivers at other operators may be on strike.

“We know that this is a busy time of year as we approach Christmas, so we would like to thank customers for their continued patience and understanding.”

Additionally, the service will be affected on Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 10 as repairs are carried out to a section of the track between Woking and Basingstoke.

This comes after a landslip which occurred in late November means two out of the four tracks in the area will be closed, reducing the amount of tracks available.

Due to the track and signalling restrictions, only three trains per hour will run in each direction, down from the normal nine services in a standard hour.

Again, passengers are advised to check their travel plans and timetables ahead of setting off.
