This week has seen torrential rain batter the county, with the Met Office warning that more wet weather is to come this weekend.

Dorset’s rivers burst their banks on Monday following a bout of heavy rain after a yellow weather warning. Another warning for Thursday saw further flooding, and more road closures.

Rad closures were implemented in west Dorset and around Dorchester due to flooding.

Due to the banks of the River Frome bursting, Slyers Lane was closed for the whole week at the turn off from B3150 London Road up to Frome Whitfield, whilst Bockhampton Lane, linking that village to West Stafford, was also closed for three days, to have been reopened today (Saturday, December 9.)

The road between Broadwindsor and Salwayash, near Bridport, was also reopened after being closed on the afternoon of Thursday and assessed by Dorset Council.

The Met Office has warned that Saturday will be brighter, however more rain is expected for the rest of the weekend.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page said: “Wet and windy weather is the main theme of the forecast this weekend, though there will be some drier interludes in the south on Saturday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Met Office spoke about the weather to the South West: “On Sunday expect heavy rain quickly moving east across the region during the morning, clearing during the afternoon. Brightening up behind the rain band. Generally windy with gales in the west again later.”
