MEMBERS of a vintage car club have donated hard-raised cash to help veterans in Weymouth and the surrounding area.

Each year members of the Dorset Area of the Midget and Sprite Car Club (MASC) choose a local charity to support through monies raised from raffles, entry fees, and other activities.

The club - which is for enthusiasts of the classic Austin-Healey Sprite, M.G. Midget, and its derivatives – chose to support The Veterans Hub in Weymouth for 2023.

During a club night, Mick Stacey, a volunteer at the Weymouth Veterans Hub, was introduced by Dorset Area MASC Chairman Dave Stebbing. He told members about his military service and how he had first come into contact with The Veterans Hub.

Mr Stacey explained just some of the difficulties which ex-military personnel may face after leaving the services.

It was clear to club members that the hub in Weymouth, like others in the UK, is a real lifeline for people who can come together to share their experiences and gain strength from those in a similar position.

After the talk, the chairman presented Mr Stacey with a cheque for £1,000 raised by members.

More than 300 veterans plus their families are served by the Wyke Regis-based hub, run by a dedicated team of volunteers.

It is funded as a non-profit organisation through hard work, fundraising, and the goodwill of the local community.

In a letter of thanks to the Dorset Area MASC members, Rachel Gray, the manager of the hub, said: “In short your donation will make a true difference to a community that is often forgotten about.”
