A construction materials and recycling services firm is expanding in west Dorset with the acquisition of a Weymouth-based company.

Avon Material Supplies (AMS) is expanding its concrete and aggregate services with the acquisition of Harold Doonan Building Materials Ltd (Doonans) of Weymouth.

AMS specialises in ready-mixed concrete and building materials across Dorset, Somerset and West Hampshire and is looking to expand its business in west Dorset.

James Howarth, managing director of AMS, said: “This acquisition is an important part of our business's desire to strengthen its operations in the west of Dorset and will perfectly complement the existing services we currently offer in the area, which include the supply of concrete, construction aggregates and waste management services.

"From my time working with Harold, I am confident we have acquired a successful business with a long history of providing fantastic services to the businesses and people of Weymouth and the surrounding areas.

"We’re looking forward to continuing and building upon the great work Harold and his team have been doing over the last three decades.”

Established over 30 years ago, Doonans is a family-run business that has built a strong reputation for their expertise, reliability, and commitment to customer satisfaction.

Harold Doonan, managing director and founder of Doonans, said: “I am delighted that the business my family and I have worked so hard to build up over the last 30 years will now be able to enter a new chapter under the ownership of Avon Material Supplies, a business we have admired for many years.

"It seems like the perfect outcome as I can now enter retirement knowing that our existing customers will continue to be served by a business that has customer service and high-quality products at the heart of everything they do.”

The two firms believe that the acquisition will pave the way for continued growth, improved services, and enhanced customer satisfaction throughout Weymouth and the surrounding areas.
