A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault with a glass bottle in Weymouth that left a man blind in one eye.

It was reported that between 12am and 1.30am on Saturday, January 6 a man, in his 40s, was struck in the face with a glass bottle as he was walking on the Rodwell Trail, close to the basketball courts in Parr Way.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment of serious facial injuries and has lost the use of his eyesight in one eye.

Following enquiries by officers, police said today that a 29-year-old Weymouth man was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has been released under investigation as the investigation continues.
