Firefighters have taken part in a drill that involved hazardous materials on Portland.

Crews from both Portland and Weymouth fire stations took part in the exercise that was held at the factory of luxury yacht firm Sunseeker International at Osprey Quay.

The drill simulated a 'small chemical spill' that involved two casualties, allowing crews to rehearse how they would deal with such a situation if it was to occur.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Portland crew were join by our colleagues from Weymouth Fire Station for a combined hazardous materials exercise.

"We simulated a small chemical spill involving two casualties, crews used full chemical protective clothing and breathing apparatus to extract them.

"They then set up a decontamination area to remove any of the contaminant casualties and crew had on them.

"A huge thank you to Sunseeker Portland for hosting this exercise and helping our officers with the planning arrangements."

Portland fire station is currently recruiting for paid on-call fire fighters, and is encouraging anyone who would like to be part of their team and join in on exercises to get in touch.
