Families are invited to join in with a weekend of activities and displays at a popular attraction in Dorset this February.

The Tank Museum in Bovington will be hosting the South West Model Show from February 10 to 11. Visitors will be able to have a go at Scalextric racing, fly a model aeroplane with the British Model Flying Association, and meet Doctor Who villains, the Daleks from the Dalek Charity Squad.

The show is set against the museum’s vast collection of military vehicles, showcasing over 300 tanks from 26 nations. This includes the world’s only running Tiger I, the British Army’s current Main Battle Tank, Challenger 2 and the first prototype tank, Little Willie.

Tom Holmes, Events Manager, said: “The model show brings the whole family together to take part in a fun and hands-on weekend that celebrates model making at the home of the Tank.

Dorset Echo: Visitors can meet Doctor Wh Villians the Daleks!

“We are looking forward to seeing displays from our first modelling competition, and we thank Airfix and the Art’s University of Bournemouth for their sponsorship.”

There will also be a tree making workshop run by Arts University Bournemouth and visitors can also build a model with Models for Heroes and construct a Cobi brick tank to test it on WWI terrain.

Ten interactive exhibitions can also be explored, including the “Tanks for the Memories” exhibition, which explains how tanks have been portrayed as cultural icons, through model making, media, and film.

The museum recently celebrated its 100th anniversary with a record number of visitors in 2023.
