A 50-PITCH pop up campsite has been agreed for a site off Fleet Lane, Chickerell, for a period of up to sixty days.
The site, at Seaview Farm, which runs down to the Fleet foreshore, will have five portable loos and three showers with stand pipes for water and areas for the disposal of waste water.
Only one comment had been received by Dorset Council about the application which questioned whether additional camping would ‘degrade’ the Heritage Coast.
The writer said that in the 40-plus years he had lived in Butter Street, Fleet he had seen a considerable decline in wildlife with ground-nesting birds particularly affected by dogs off leads and illegal cycling on the South West coast path.
The campsite owners say they will keep a gate which allows direct access to the Fleet foreshore locked while the site is in use with an alternative, less direct route available, almost 1km long.
The intended use of the site is between July 4th and September 2nd, although the consent does allow up to sixty days.
Dorset Council's approval lasts for this year only and will need a fresh application for any subsequent years.
