Businesses in Poundbury have been targeted in burglaries which took place overnight.

The café and soft play area 100 Giggles on Bridport Road was broken into between 5pm on Monday, February 26 and 8.15am on Tuesday, February 27.

During police enquiries it was discovered that a break in had also been attempted at another business on Bridport Road, though it was not successful.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report that between 5pm on Monday, February 26 and 8.15am on Tuesday, February 27 entry was gained to 100 Giggles in Bridport Road in Poundbury and a search of the premises was carried out.

"It was further reported that an attempt was made to access another property in Bridport Road but this was not believed to have been successful."

Enquiries into both incidents remain ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence 55240029780.

Police are also urging businesses in the vicinity to review their security arrangements and ensure they do not leave large amounts of cash or other valuable items at their premises overnight if possible.

Anyone with information or concerns can speak to a member of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team. 

A spokesperson for Dorchester Police said: "We have been conducting crime enquiries in Poundbury this morning following a reported commercial burglary. The burglary is believed to have occurred overnight at a business on Bridport Road.

"Whilst carrying out enquiries, a further attempted burglary was discovered at another commercial premises nearby."
